Maurice Sheppard

Yondan - 4th degree Black Belt
Maurice is a native Newfoundlander with thirty-four years experience in judo. He is a fourth degree black belt (Yondan) in judo and is qualified as a National Level C judo referee and is an NCCP level III certified coach as well as being the Chief referee for Newfoundland & Labrador. He is also a member of the provincial and Atlantic Black belt Grading Boards. He is the Head Coach and self-defence instructor for our club and has been a coach or manger for the Newfoundland and Labrador male judo team at 4 Canada Winter Games in 1983, 1987, 1991 and 1999. In August 2009 he was part of the NL Mission Staff for Canada Summer Games which were held in PEI. Sensei Sheppard is also a former national and international judo competitor and brings vast coaching and competitive experience to the MUN club. He was the first person to carry the Olympic Torch in November 2007 in the Olympic Torch Relay (started in St. John's) for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. He is the Chief Instructor of our club.
